CanDetec led a demonstration project designed to control Cyanobacteria and algae in the Windermere Basin in Hamilton. Windermere was designed and constructed to operate as a shoreline wetland on the shore of Lake Ontario, many of which have disappeared. Over the last few years, the planted emergent and submergent vegetation has disappeared and the wetland is now dominated by phytoplankton including a predominance of Cyanobacteria. CanDetec installed a single SonicSolutions ultrasound in late May through to the end of July. A significant improvement in water clarity and reduction of algae concentrations was achieved. Frequent sampling occurred to document the benefits of ultrasound.

Final report should be expected in the fall of 2022.
